When is the Right Time to Get Surgery to Stop Snoring?
Snoring brings with it tiredness during the day, lack of concentration and above all embarrassment. To combat against all these problems people today use various natural remedies and medical aids. If these treatments do not work then the last option is surgery. However, it should be known that surgery is only used when all the best natural methods have failed. Once the person decides to undergo this treatment then make sure to have a discussion with the doctor. They are the experts who will always give the best option and will decide whether one is a suitable candidate to undergo this procedure or not. In general there are four surgical procedures that help to stop snoring.
Surgery to Stop Snoring
Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP)
UPPP is that surgery which widens the passage of oropharynx. The part of the soft palettes like uvula and the pharyngeal arch is taken out. During this treatment the patient is provided general anesthesia. However, there are some aftermaths of this type of surgery like severe pain after the surgery, loss of taste, change in voice, dry palate and much more.
Laser Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty
In this process a laser treatment is given to vaporize the free edge of uvula and soft palate. It is also done under anesthetic conditions. One of the best features of this surgery is that it can be repeated until the desired result is obtained. This is considered safe and the comfortable surgical method to stop snoring.
Somnoplasty
This surgery contracts the tissue of the soft palate. Its duration is just twenty minutes during which the tissue undergoes the heating phenomenon up to the temperature of 85 degree Celsius. It causes few scars to the tissue but they do not have any harm on neighbor tissues. In this surgery also local anesthesia is given to the patient. However, it has less success rate as compared to other surgeries.
Palatal stiffening operations
This is another type of surgery which helps to stop snoring. It is a very simple process in which throat tissue is burned down so that it gets stiffened. It can be repeated several times until the desired result is not achieved. In this the patient does not suffer much pain after the surgery.
The surgery is however a very serious treatment. In most of the conditions it can increase the chances to develop side-effects and some complications. Thus do not get excited to get surgical treatment hurriedly to stop snoring. It has less successful rate but once it is successful one would never develop the same problem. Thus they are very effective in their treatment.
